Calculation rules and sources

Rule version C19-SSY-2019-2026-10-09. Source check: 9 October 2026.

Covered case: regular deposits in a new account opened on 1 April 2024, 2025 or 2026; child aged under 10 at opening. Other opening dates are unavailable pending review of partial financial years and maturity-month interest. This does not determine full account eligibility.

In this equal-deposit model, deposits are made on the opening-date anniversary at the selected monthly, quarterly or yearly interval for 15 years. Each modelled deposit is at least ₹250 and a multiple of ₹50. The scheme permits subsequent deposits in ₹50 multiples, subject to its ₹250–₹1,50,000 financial-year range; unequal deposits are not modelled. No deposits from the fifteenth anniversary onward.

Interest accrues monthly on the lowest balance after close of the fifth day through month-end; these deposits are on the first. Interest credits on 31 March, rounded to the nearest rupee with 50 paise rounded up. Maturity is the opening date plus 21 years, after the preceding financial year's credit.

Notified path: 8.2% through 31 December 2026; later months use your explicitly entered constant future scenario rate. Constant illustration: your rate applies throughout and is not a notified scheme return. Future rules and rates can change.

No tax benefit, education withdrawal, early closure, default regularisation, existing balance, residency change or account-count eligibility is modelled. Confirm eligibility and account terms with the provider. Not personal financial or tax advice.

Eligibility

A guardian can open one account for a girl below age 10. Family account limits and permitted exceptions also apply; this calculator does not determine full eligibility. Only 1 April 2024, 2025 or 2026 openings are modelled here.

Deposit limits

The opening deposit is at least ₹250; later deposits may be in ₹50 multiples. Deposit at least ₹250 and no more than ₹1,50,000 in each financial year during the first 15 years. This equal-deposit model starts at ₹250 per deposit and allows up to ₹12,500 monthly, ₹37,500 quarterly or ₹1,50,000 yearly.

Tax treatment

The NSI overview describes an 80C deduction and tax-free interest. Your applicable tax-year rules, regime, limits and eligibility are not verified here; no deduction, exemption or tax saving is calculated. Confirm current treatment before relying on a benefit.

Withdrawals and closure

For education, §8 permits up to 50% of the preceding financial-year-end balance after age 18 or passing class 10, whichever is earlier, subject to documentary and actual-fee limits. §9 permits qualifying marriage closure at age 18 or above. Neither withdrawal nor early closure is modelled; this projection assumes no withdrawals and maturity at 21 years.

Potential advantages

The 15-year deposit window supports regular long-term saving, with annual interest credits continuing toward 21-year maturity. The scheme also allows conditional education access. These features are not a recommendation or a promise of future returns.

Trade-offs

Access before maturity is conditional, deposits have an annual cap, and future notified interest rates may change. The projected maturity is sensitive to your assumed future rate and excludes tax, missed deposits and withdrawals.
